Francesco Grande

Associate Professor of Arabic Language and Literature at the University of Turin since 2018, and researcher in Arabic Language and Literature at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice from 2013 to 2018, where he collaborated with the University of Malta (2015) as a lecturer in Arabic linguistics and with the University of Oslo (2016-2017) within the framework of the EtymArab project – Etymological Dictionary of Arabic Language and Culture. He obtained his degree in Languages and Civilizations of the Orient (2002, Ca’ Foscari University) and his PhD in Linguistics (2010, University of Pisa). He has previously been a lecturer in Arabic language and literature at the universities of Bologna, Venice, and Milan, and is a translator of Arabic at the Chamber of Commerce and Court of Milan, also active at the foreign branches (Lebanon, Libya) of his clients (e.g., ENI). At the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, he was awarded a CNR grant (2007-08) for the study of Arabic influences in Dante’s work (Research Promotion 2005, code 437/303) and served as scientific coordinator for the Arabic languages area (2008-10) for the language teaching project Plusvalor (143368-2008-IT-KA2-KA2MP). He has been a speaker at various national and international conferences in Arabic studies (Alif, UEAI, Qur’anic Linguistics Research Group) and is an anonymous reviewer for specialized journals. He is currently a member of the Union Européenne des Arabisants et Islamisants and of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Arabic Linguistics.
